A well-intentioned children's story about the first Christmas is written, or rather "executed" in a weird, and sometimes disturbing way.
I think of trees as strong, proud, noble, silent caretakers of the planet. Quietly doing their job of providing oxygen and looking beautiful without a trace of smugness. Not as bullies picking on smaller trees with self-esteem issues.
And there's something disturbingly hilarious about a tree that longs to be chopped down, cut up, and nailed together as a piece of furniture. Ohhh, the joy he feels when he finally achieves his dream of being woken up by someone swinging an ax into him! And isn't that what Christmas is really all about, Charlie Brown?
Um...I realize I'm human, so my Christmas dreams probably don't involve being awoken by an ax murderer with plans to make furniture out of me and put a baby in my remains. But that's just me.
